Draft Day is here: Nashville takes center stage as NFL Draft weekend begins Open Navigation Close Navigation Search Facebook Twitter YouTube Email

After months of planning and preparation, NFL Draft weekend is set to begin in Music City as 300,000 people are expected in downtown Nashville over the course of the event.  Most fans will be spread out throughout the downtown footprint with some on Lower Broad and some across the Cumberland River at Nissan Stadium.   For the city, safety and security are a priority with extensive cooperation from local, state and federal agencies.   Metro police said 400 officers per day will be devoted to ensuring safety during the NFL Draft weekend. The Nashville Convention and Visitors Corp. will have entry points around downtown to check for prohibited items like backpacks and coolers.   The NFL will have “grabbers” on hand 24-7 who can remove concrete barriers to make room for emergency vehicles as needed.   A hotline has been established by Metro police to report anything suspicious as part of the “  See something, say something” campaign. The number is 615-880-1515.  The experience is two-million square feet of fun — and, according to organizers, Nashville’s NFL Experience will be the biggest footprint in its history.  There are several interactive games at the Experience, so you can pr...

Super Dry Launches Solder Paste Storage with Traceability

Moisture specialist Super Dry Totech has launched new solutions for solder paste storage, bringing both temperature control and 4.0 traceability while eliminating the uncontrolled management of solder inventory. Solder paste is a shelf-life dependent item and manufacturers recommend it be stored in a First In-First Out manner. Refrigerated storage prolongs the shelf life of solder paste and upon delivery, it should be directly placed into refrigerated storage, typically30°C for extended periods of time may no longer perform as expected. Prior to use, solder paste must be brought gently to the temperature conditions in which it will be used, which means movement to another location, for up to one day. Newly launched Model XSDC 601 solder paste storage cabinets with network compatibility maintain an internal temperature of 2 – 20°C with little energy expenditure. Constructed from dual wall insulated stainless steel, they incorporate 40 KG capacity shelves and provide complete traceability of the storage conditions and environment history.  Maintaining tracking of paste locations and time in and out of refrigeration are also possible with additional software. Delivering glob...

Only 3 Months Exist Where Buying Bitcoin Resulted in Losses

Bitcoin was created in the wake of the global financial crisis and great recession, by the mysterious Satoshi Nakamoto, seeking to empower humanity with control over their own money – something that fiat currencies cannot provide due to their centralized control by governments. In the 125 months that Bitcoin has been around, buying the first ever crypto asset at any point during those 125 months – except for three specific months – would have resulted in a the investment being a profitable one. And since its inception, it’s brought investors over 194 million percent returns, and has been among the best performing assets ever created. There’s no denying Bitcoin’s ability to bring investors incredible returns and wealth. Those who invested in the emerging technology have been rewarded handsomely for their forward-thinking. In the 125 months that Bitcoin has existed, buying and holding Bitcoin in only three of those 125 months would have resulted in losses. Outside of those three months, buying Bitcoin at any time during 122 of those 125 months would have generated profits for the holder of the digital asset. During the 2017 bull run, FOMO caused those late to the game to rush into...

Susan Covell Alpert was crushed by grief when her 71-year-old husband, Larry, died of leukemia in

Susan Covell Alpert was crushed by grief when her 71-year-old husband, Larry, died of leukemia in 2008. Adding to her misery, a tidal wave of financial decisions and tasks demanded the new widow’s attention at a time when she could barely think straight. Like many couples, Susan and Larry, who were married for 46 years, had divided the financial chores. Larry handled the investments, and Susan paid some bills. Though Ms. Alpert owned a business arranging travel incentives for large corporations, she was not prepared to manage the household’s financial affairs. “I knew every stock, and I knew where everything was,” said Ms. Alpert, 78. “But I didn’t know what to do with it all.” Nor did she know what the investments were worth. Rather than holding securities in a brokerage account, Mr. Alpert had opted for paper certificates, which he kept in his desk in their home in Newport Beach, Calif. Ms. Alpert hired a bookkeeper and a financial adviser, and it took them a year to determine the value of the more than 120 certificates, she said. That was just one of numerous issues that Ms. Alpert confronted. Besides the settlement of the estate, there were insurance companies to call, bank...

Paintings Dominate Bidding Action At Clarke Auction Gallery

Paintings took four out of the top five spots in Clarke Auction Gallery’s May 5 sale that was filled with strong and surprising results with many items defying their estimates. Leading the top paintings were two watercolors on paper made in 1969 by Shiy De-Jinn (Xi Dejin, China, 1923-1981). The top lot of the auction was a vibrant street scene of a market and crowds outside a temple and bright storefronts that attained $30,000. The other was a river landscape depicting the rolling mountains of Taiwan and misty waterways splashed in blues and greens $18,750. Both works measure 18 ¾ by 24 ¾ inches. “Both paintings were notable for their bold use of color and resonated with buyers,” said Senko Imamura, Clarke’s Asian art and antiquities specialist. Japanese artists were also represented in the auction, including a pair of abstract paintings by 106-year old Shinoda Toko, who has primarily worked with Japanese sumi ink and lithography. A 1983 interview in Time magazine asserted “her trail-blazing accomplishments are analogous to Picasso’s.” Achieving $9,375 were Toko’s “Nexus” and “After the Rain” ($8/12,000), typical of her works from the 1960s, that sold together as one lot. When you’re traveling with fragile items in your suitcase, whether you’re handing it over to an

When you’re traveling with fragile items in your suitcase, whether you’re handing it over to an airline or a taxi driver or tossing it into your trunk, you want the protection you get with hard case luggage. Some travelers simply prefer hardside luggage for its sleek look or packing configuration. Most hard luggage has a “clamshell” setup, where the bag opens flat, like a book, and there are two similar packing areas, usually with tie-downs or zippered mesh layers. They are easier to clean than fabric bags, and they often come in bright colors or even decorative prints. Travelers who tend to overfill soft-side bags to the point where they won’t fit into an overhead bin might do better with a hardside that keeps its shape — or one that expands and compresses back to carry-on size like magic. The terms “hardside,” “hard-case,” and “hard-shell” are used interchangeably, so we’ll use the terminology of the various manufacturers. Shop our selection of medium check-in and carry-on size suitcases below, and (if you’re not already) be prepared to fall in love with hardside luggage. Briggs & Riley has long been making some of the best hardside luggage on the market. This 21-inc...

Since Campagnolo launched Potenza back in 2016, it may not have come close to dethroning Shimano’s

Since Campagnolo launched Potenza back in 2016, it may not have come close to dethroning Shimano’s Ultegra as the most popular groupset for competitive cyclists without an unlimited budget – but after thoroughly enjoying my time with it I would definitely consider Potenza an Ultegra competitor, despite it being fourth in Campagnolo’s groupset hierarchy. It’s durable, the ergonomics are great and in its disc version you get impressively powerful braking with no discernible difference to the feel or looks of the levers. It also looks cool, and I love the snappy, definitive action of the thumb levers. Potenza was brought in to provide a sensibly priced option for serious cyclists who can’t quite stretch to Campag’s more luxurious Chorus, Record and Super Record groupset offerings. It’s made mostly out of aluminium and comes in at 2,609g in total. That’s only 156g more than Campag’s Record 12-speed gruppo, and although that has the extra sprocket and carbon luxury throughout, you pay almost an extra £1,000 for the privilege. My test bike was a Tifosi SS26, and as you can read in my review of that here, Potenza was probably the nu...

NASA Finds Faulty Aluminum Scam Caused $700 Million in Launch Failures

NASA revealed this week that two missions failed because of bad aluminum from a company that falsified test results for 19 years. Faulty materials provided by aluminum manufacturer Sapa Profiles Inc. (SPI) of Oregon caused two Taurus XL rockets to fail to reach orbit, according to a NASA news release. The loss of the rockets carrying NASA’s Orbiting Carbon Observatory satellite in February 2009 and the Glory scientific satellite in March 2011 resulted in total losses of both missions. Sapa Profiles, now known as Hydro Extrusion Portland Inc., and its corporate parent have agreed to pay $46 million to NASA, the Department of Defense and others to resolve criminal charges and civil claims relating to the scam that ran from 1996 to 2015, the U.S. Department of Justice announced on Tuesday. (MORE: An Asteroid Will Hit Earth Again at Some Point and We Have to Be Ready, NASA Administrator Says) SPI provided the aluminum extrusions used in part of the shell at the top of the rocket that covers and protects the satellite inside, according to NASA and the Justice Department. Small explosives cause that part, called the payload fairing rail frangible joint, to separate and fall away from...
